Enabling / Disabling Insights Advisor Recommendations

Introduction
Red Hat Insights has over 1000+ recommendations available for detection within your Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments. By default, many recommendations within Advisor are enabled and are checked against every registered host to Red Hat Insights, however there may be situation however where a user may want to disable a recommendation from being detected and shown. To allow for customization of the results shown, Red Hat Insights provides two levels of controls with varying granularity to provide you with the flexibility you may need.
Disable / Enable a recommendation for all hosts
The following steps will explain the steps to Disable & Enable an Insights recommendation against all registered hosts. When disabling a recommendation for all hosts, the results for this recommendation will not be shown for currently registered hosts as well as all future hosts, unless it was been re-enabled.
To Disable
- Navigate to the Insights Advisor This content is not included.recommendations page
- Identify or search for the recommendation you wish to disable
- In the row of the rule you're disabling, select the 3 vertical dots located on the far right of that row to bring up the menu
- Select "Disable Recommendation"
To Enable
- Navigate to the Insights Advisor This content is not included.recommendations page
- Select the filter drop down selector, this may say "Name" by default"
- Select "Rule Status" from the drop down
- Select "Filter by status" to view your filter options
- Select "Disabled"
- In the list of disabled rules now shown, in the row for that rule you wish to enable, select the 3 vertical dots located on the far right of that row to bring up the menu
- Select "Enable Recommendation"
Disable / Enable a recommendation for selected hosts
There may be a situation where you wish to not disable the rule against all hosts registered, however need to disable it for a subset of hosts which it may not apply to. The following steps will outline how to disable a rule for a particular host.
To Disable
- Navigate to the Insights Advisor This content is not included.recommendations page
- Click on the recommendation to view additional details pertaining to the rule and see a list of affected systems.
- For an individual host, select the 3 vertical dots located on the far right of that row to bring up the menu - select "Disable recommendation for system"
- For multiple hosts, check the box next to the host name for the hosts you wish to disable this for, then select the 3 vertical dots next to the Remediate button to bring up the menu - select "Disable recommendation for selected systems"
- A modal will display - input optional justification note for your own records as to why this is being disabled. Select "Save"
To Enable
- When viewing the results for a recommendation, if it has been disabled for some hosts, you may see a banner above the host list for "Recommendation is disabled for some systems" above the affected systems list.
- To quickly enable all - select "Enable this recommendation for all systems"
- To enable only for a select set - select "View Systems", in the modal click "Enable" next to the systems you wish to enable this recommendation for (that were previously disabled)
