Leapp data snapshots for an in-place upgrade

Updated

Leapp data is required for a successful in-place upgrade (IPU) between major RHEL releases. For the standard in-place upgrade, you need the latest versions of data and packages. However, for RHEL systems where the leapp and leapp-repository components' development has been stopped, the latest data does not have to be valid. As a consequence, the in-place upgrade might be impossible for such systems.

This article provides snapshots of last Leapp data for such systems to make the in-place upgrade possible. Note that this data cannot be automatically downloaded from the Red Hat Insights server.

NOTE: You can use data files listed in this article only for particular systems mentioned in the table below.

For more information on how to get the up-to-date data for an in-place upgrade from the maintained RHEL systems, see Leapp utility metadata in-place upgrades of RHEL for disconnected upgrades.

The metadata includes the following copyright notice:

"legal_notice": "Copyright 2018 Red Hat, Inc. This file is provided to customers as a part of the Services under the Red Hat Enterprise Agreement and is not for redistribution."

Instructions on how to use this metadata

For a successful in-place upgrade of RHEL versions supported by the Leapp utility, you must extract data files from the archive attached to this article into the /etc/leapp/files/ directory on the target system.

Procedure

  1. Download the following file that reflects the system you want to upgrade from:
    | System | Filename | Checksum (SHA-256) |
    | --------- | --------- | --------- |
    | RHEL 7.6 for IBM POWER 9 (little endian) and IBM Z (structure A) | leapp-data-rhel-7.6.tar.gz | 49f1b3748a21ed7551c435e004e8d370b7f599b1144d586dc18280ce884a4f82 |

  2. Upload this file to the system you want to upgrade.

  3. Extract the content of the file into the /etc/leapp/files directory:

    # tar -xzf <FILENAME> -C /etc/leapp/files

Replace <FILENAME> with the name of the downloaded file.
