Red Hat OpenStack Platform and Red Hat Satellite Test Matrix

Red Hat publishes product life cycles for both the Red Hat Satellite server and Red Hat OpenStack platform(OSP) products. The life cycles include time frames when the products receive Full support, Maintenance support, and go End of Life(EOL). These time frames are different for the two products. This article provides guidance for determining which Satellite versions are supported by an OpenStack version.

The Satellite server life cycle is published at Red Hat Satellite Product Life Cycle. Three Satellite versions are supported at a time with Satellite versions going EOL 18 months after being released.

The OSP platform life cycle is published at Red Hat OpenStack Platform Life Cycle. OSP platform life cycle is significantly longer than the Satellite life cycle. It usually takes several years after release for an OSP version to go EOL.

During the time an OSP version is supported, Red Hat qualifies each Satellite version that has not gone EOL to work with that OSP version. Generally, three Satellite versions are supported by an OSP version.

After an OSP version reaches EOL no new Satellite qualification tests are performed. The supported Satellite versions for that release decrease over time until no versions are supported. Example: Prior to going EOL, an OSP release was qualified to work with Satellite versions 6.11, 6.12, and 6.13. The release then reaches EOL and all Satellite qualification tests are stopped. When Satellite version 6.13 reaches EOL there would be no supported Satellite versions qualified to work with that OSP release.

The table below shows which Satellite versions have been tested with each OSP version. This table serves as a testing matrix and does not imply any claims of support.*

*Note: For OSP releases 16.2 and 17.1 the Satellite acting as both a yum package repository and a container image registry is supported. For OSP release 18.0 only the Satellite acting as a yum package repository is supported.
