Abstract

Install Red Hat build of Podman Desktop using the `.dmg` file. The setup process includes installing the Podman engine and configuring your initial Podman machine.

Preface

Install Red Hat build of Podman Desktop on your macOS machine by using the .dmg installer file. This installer package provides a smooth, bundled installation of the following essential components:

  • Red Hat build of Podman Desktop
  • Podman
  • Podman CLI

Chapter 1. Install using the .dmg installer file

The .dmg installer provides the most stable experience by bundling the required components. This avoids the path conflicts and stability issues common with package managers like Homebrew. The .dmg files are available as universal binaries. This ensures that the virtualization layers and helper tools are optimized for your specific macOS hardware.

After installation, the Get started with Red Hat build of Podman Desktop screen helps you to start the onboarding process. You can skip this setup and complete it later using one of the following ways:

  • Use the Set up button in the notification on the Dashboard page.
  • Use the Setup Podman button on the Podman tile, located on the Settings > Resources page.
Important

If you have installed Podman using Homebrew, ensure you uninstall it before using the .dmg installer. This avoids unexpected results when using Red Hat build of Podman Desktop.
