RHBA-2009:1621 - screen bug fix update
Synopsis
screen bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
An updated screen package that fixes a bug is now available.
Description
The screen utility allows multiple logins on a single terminal. Screen is useful for users who telnet into a machine or are connected via a dumb terminal, but want to use more than one login.
This updated package resolves the following issue:
- in the previous screen release, utempter support was disabled. The utempter library provides an interface for terminal emulators such as screen and xterm to record user sessions to utmp and wtmp files. Without utempter support, commands such as logname and "who am i" did not work in screen sessions. With this update the screen spec file was updated to require the libutempter-devel package. This ensures utempter support is enabled and commands such as logname, "who am i" and "w" work in screen sessions as expected. (BZ#541875)
All screen users are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which resolves this issue.
