RHBA-2010:0176 - pidgin bug fix update
Synopsis
pidgin bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
Updated pidgin packages that fix a bug are now available.
Description
Pidgin allows you to talk to anyone using a variety of messaging protocols including AIM, MSN, Yahoo!, Jabber, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, ICQ, IRC, Novell Groupwise, QQ, Lotus Sametime, SILC, Simple and Zephyr.
These updated pidgin packages fix the following bug:
- Pidgin users who attempted to log on to an AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) account found that their connections failed due to recent AIM protocol changes. A workaround for this incompatibility involved disabling secure authentication. This update resolves the incompatibility so that Pidgin users are once again able to log on to their AOL Instant Messenger accounts using secure authentication. (BZ#576311)
All users of pidgin are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which resolve this issue.
