RHBA-2011:0155 - Red Hat Network Satellite bug fix update
Synopsis
Red Hat Network Satellite bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
Updated Red Hat Network Satellite Server packages that fix multiple bugs are now available for Red Hat Network Satellite Server 5.4.
Description
Red Hat Network Satellite Server is a system management tool for Linux-based infrastructures. It allows for the provisioning, remote management and monitoring of multiple Linux deployments with a single, centralized tool.
This update fixes the following bugs:
-
Previously, virtual guests that consumed free entitlements were not converted to flex guests after removal of their host system. This behavior was due to an error in the server logic. This update corrects the logic that detects flex guest systems. Virtual guests that consume free entitlements are now correctly converted to flex guests after removal of their virtual host system. (BZ#653510)
-
Previously, Satellite entitlement logic allowed a registered system to consume flex entitlement only for one channel at a time. Due to this behavior, registered systems consumed flex entitlements for their base channels only but child channels would consume regular entitlements. With this update, the entitlement logic allows a flex guest to use correct entitlements for both base and child channels. Registration of a flex guest capable system uses now flex entitlements for both base and child channels. (BZ#661109)
-
Previously, activation of new Satellite certificates failed. This was caused by several problems. Virtual guests could be recognized as physical systems, guest entitlements were consumed by physical systems and certain multi-organizational entitlement allocation schemas contained insufficient entitlements in base organization. This update contains updated Satellite upgrade instructions and a script to check potential problems with a new Satellite certificate as part of the upgrade procedure. The script now informs of potential activation problems and recommended courses of action. (BZ#664930)
-
Previously, the Satellite certificate activation logic that involved conversion of regular entitlements to flex entitlements did not restrict the conversion to a channel family and converted all system's subscriptions. Due to this behavior, Satellite certificate activation failed when it converted regular system entitlements to flex entitlements for both the base and the child channels of the converted system. This update fixes the Satellite certificate activation logic to convert regular to flex entitlements in critical cases. Activation of a new Satellite certificate now correctly converts regular entitlements to flex entitlements for base and child channels of a system. (BZ#667232)
Note:
After updating the affected packages see step 11 of /etc/sysconfig/rhn/satellite-upgrade/preparations.txt. Users of Red Hat Network Satellite Server are advised to upgrade to these updated packages add this enhancement.
All Users of Red Hat Network Satellite Server are advised to upgrade to these updated packages that fix these bugs.
