RHBA-2012:0217 - xinetd bug fix and enhancement update
Synopsis
xinetd bug fix and enhancement update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory (none)
Topic
An updated xinetd package that fixes one bug and adds one enhancement is now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.
Description
The xinet daemon (xinetd) is a secure replacement for inetd, the Internet services daemon. It provides access control for all services based on the address of the remote host and on time of access, and can prevent denial of service attacks.
This update fixes the following bug:
- Prior to this update, xinetd contuously logged the message "descriptors still set" when reconfiguring a client service while the client was running. This update modifies the underlying code so that services can be configured as expected. (BZ#754444)
This update also adds the following enhancement:
- Prior to this update, xinetd did not respect the no_files limit defined in the limits configuration. This update allows to set a limit on the maximum number of files for a child service and adds the rlimit_files option to the xinetd configuration. Now, xinetd respects the no_files limit. (BZ#639447)
All users of xinetd are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which fixes this bug and adds this enhancement.
