Updated glibc packages that fix one bug are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.

Description

The glibc packages provide the standard C and standard math libraries used by multiple programs on the system. Without these libraries, the Linux system cannot function correctly.

This update fixes the following bug:

  • Previously, glibc did not walk through the entire list of Network Information Service (NIS) password or group buffers. As a consequence, when utilizing the NIS password or group maps, allocated memory was not freed properly, which caused memory leaks. This update modifies glibc to walk through the entire lists so that memory is freed as expected and memory leaks no longer occur in this scenario. (BZ#810323)

All users of glibc are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix this bug.
