RHBA-2013:0793 - e2fsprogs bug fix update
Synopsis
e2fsprogs bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
Updated e2fsprogs packages that fix one bug are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.
Description
The e2fsprogs packages provide a number of utilities for creating, checking, modifying, and correcting any inconsistencies in the ext2 file systems.
This update fixes the following bug:
- A bug in the libblkid library allowed an access to the already freed memory when reading block device entries in cache during kernel installation using the grubby tool. As a consequence, grubby could terminate unexpectedly with a segmentation fault causing the installation to fail. This update modifies libblkid so that it now properly handles pointers to the device structure, and the kernel can now be installed as expected when using grubby. (BZ#949435)
Users of e2fsprogs are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix this bug.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously-released errata relevant to your system have been applied.
