RHBA-2014:1422 - cpupowerutils bug fix and enhancement update
Synopsis
cpupowerutils bug fix and enhancement update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
Updated cpupowerutils packages that fix several bugs and add one enhancement are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.
Description
The cpupowerutils packages provide a suite of tools to manage power states on appropriately enabled central processing units (CPU).
This update fixes the following bugs:
-
Prior to this update, the turbostat utility did not correctly access the energy status register on certain Intel Core processors. As a consequence, turbostat displayed the following error message:
/dev/cpu/0/msr offset 0x641 read failed
With this update, turbostat has been fixed to correctly access the proper energy status registers. As a result, turbostat now returns the expected data in the described scenario. (BZ#1056310, B#1080631)
- Previously, on systems using the ACPI CPU frequency driver, the cpupower utility displayed the CPU frequencies rounded to two digits even though the frequencies values were of 3 digits. This behaviour could lead to various problems with scripts using this output. To fix this bug, the "--no-rounding" option has been added to cpupower and the output can now be reliably used by following scripts and applications. (BZ#1109187)
In addition, this update adds the following enhancement:
- This update adds support for the Intel Broadwell Microarchitecture to the turbostat utility. (BZ#1093513)
Users of cpupowerutils are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix these bugs and add this enhancement.
