Synopsis
efibootmgr bug fix and enhancement update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
Updated efibootmgr packages that fix several bugs and add various enhancements are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.
Description
The efibootmgr utility is responsible for the boot loader installation on Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) systems.
The efibootmgr packages have been upgraded to upstream version 0.8.0, which provides a number of bug fixes and enhancements over the previous version. (BZ#1129435)
This update also fixes the following bug:
- Previously, the efibootmgr utility could terminate unexpectedly when trying to remove entries from the boot order which have already been removed. This bug has been fixed and efibootmgr no longer crashes in the described case. (BZ#1168019, BZ#1188313)
In addition, this update adds the following enhancements:
-
With this update, the efibootmgr package has been modified to build successfully on host machines using the ARM 64-bit CPU architecture. (BZ#967969)
-
This update adds the --remove-dups option to the efibootmgr utility. This option allows efibootmgr to remove duplicate entries in the BootOrder list. (BZ#1097396)
-
With this update, the efivar utility, which is used to manipulate UEFI variables, has been added to the efibootmgr package. (BZ#1129831)
Users of efibootmgr are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix these bugs and add these enhancements.
