RHBA-2015:0532 - sos bug fix and enhancement update

Synopsis

sos bug fix and enhancement update

Type/Severity

Bug Fix Advisory

Topic

An updated sos package that fixes several bugs and adds various enhancements is now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.

Description

The sos package contains a set of utilities that gather information from system hardware, logs, and configuration files. The information can then be used for diagnostic purposes and debugging.

The sos package has been upgraded to upstream version 3.2, which provides a number of bug fixes and enhancements over the previous version including improved log size limits, archiving enhancements and robustness improvements, profile support for plug-in selection, and several new global plug-in command-line options. This update also adds the ability to limit the maximum size of collected data to the sar plug-in. The openstack sos plug-in has now been replaced with several separate plug-ins. Moreover, a number of new plug-ins has been included (hpasm, ctdb, dbus, oVirt engine hosted, MongoDB, ActiveMQ, OpenShift 2.0, MegaCLI, FCoE, python, NUMA, Team Network Driver). (BZ#1026962, BZ#1130273, BZ#1106423, BZ#1085827)

This update also fixes the following bug:

  • A regression in the handling of the process umask caused sosreport archives to be created with incorrect permissions. Consequently, unprivileged local users could read the report archive. The correct umask (0600) is now set prior to creating the archive. As a result, only the local root user can access the report content. (BZ#1158891)

In addition, this update adds the following enhancements:

  • With this update, the docker plug-in has been included to the sos package. (BZ#108499)

  • This update adds support for the kpatch utility to the sos package. (BZ#1110918)

  • This update adds support for the NetworkManager application to the sos package. NetworkManager troubleshooting data is now properly collected. (BZ#1100505)

  • With this update, plug-ins provided by the sos-plugins-openstack package have been merged to the sos package. (BZ#1140756)

Users of sos are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which fixes these bugs and adds these enhancements.
