Updated libpcap packages that fix several bugs are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.

Description

The libpcap packages provide a portable framework for low-level network monitoring. The libpcap library provides network statistics collection, security monitoring, and network debugging.

Notably, the bugs fixed by this update include:

  • Previously, running the "tcpdump" command with the filter expression containing the keyword "vlan" produced unexpected output, as the filter generated by the libpcap Berkeley Packet Filter (BPF) compiler did not employ BPF extensions. To fix this bug, libpcap has been amended and now generates filters that use BPF extensions when appropriate. As a result, running "tcpdump" with filters containing "vlan" produces correct results. Users of libpcap are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix these bugs.
