Updated binutils packages that fix one bug are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.

Description

The binutils packages provide a collection of binary utilities for the manipulation of object code in various object file formats. It includes the ar, as, gprof, ld, nm, objcopy, objdump, ranlib, readelf, size, strings, strip, and addr2line utilities.

This update fixes the following bug:

  • A previous enhancement to the BFD library introduced a bug to the code for parsing the DWARF debug information. As a consequence, the BFD library and all tools using it, such as gprof and perf, were unable to convert binary file addresses to positions in source code. With this update, the library has been modified to prevent the described problem. As a result, the library can now convert addresses in binary files into positions in source code as expected. Note that tools using the BFD library must be relinked in order to take advantage of this fix. (BZ#1479773)

Users of binutils are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix this bug.
