RHBA-2017:2588 - systemd bug fix update
Synopsis
systemd bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory None
Topic
Updated systemd packages that fix one bug are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.
Description
The systemd packages contain systemd, a system and service manager for Linux, compatible with the SysV and LSB init scripts. It provides aggressive parallelism capabilities, uses socket and D-Bus activation for starting services, offers on-demand starting of daemons, and keeps track of processes using Linux cgroups. In addition, it supports snapshotting and restoring of the system state, maintains mount and automount points, and implements an elaborate transactional dependency-based service control logic. It can also work as a drop-in replacement for sysvinit.
This update fixes the following bug:
- Prior to this update, the udev service began to assign network device names based on the phys_port_name attribute to all network devices that provided the attribute. These were only the devices using the new Mellanox mlxsw driver, which required their name to be based on phys_port_name. However, in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4, Solarflare (sfc) devices also exposed the phys_port_name attribute. As a consequence, the name of sfc devices changed after upgrading to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4, which broke existing network configurations. With this update, udev applies the phys_port_name attribute only for mlxsw devices. If you have already upgraded to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4 and the name of your sfc device has changed, it will revert back to its previous name; if you have not upgraded to 7.4 yet, your sfc device will keep its name with no changes after the upgrade. (BZ#1482050)
Users of systemd are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix this bug.
