RHBA-2018:3255 - weak-modules bug fix update

Synopsis

weak-modules bug fix update

Type/Severity

Bug Fix Advisory None

Topic

An update for weak-modules is now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.

Description

weak-modules script is a system part for allowing compatible kernel modules to continue to work after a kernel update occurs.

It allows binary modules to be used with other kernels without a recompilation for their specific versions.

Specifically, weak-modules checks modules installed under the "extra" subdirectories for compatibility with the kernel. If the modules are compatible, weak-modules installs symlinks under the "weak-updates" directory to make them usable for the kernel.

For detailed information on changes in this release, see the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.6 Release Notes linked from the References section.

Users of weak-modules are advised to upgrade to these updated packages.
