CVE-2020-35728
Public on
Last Modified:
Description
A flaw was found in jackson-databind. FasterXML mishandles the interaction between serialization gadgets and typing. The highest threat from this vulnerability is to data confidentiality and integrity as well as system availability.
Statement
The following Red Hat Products ship jackson-databind version 2.10.0 or later which is not considered affected by this CVE (see Content from medium.com is not included.https://medium.com/@cowtowncoder/jackson-2-10-safe-default-typing-2d018f0ce2ba)
- JBoss Data Grid 7
- JBoss Data Grid 8
- Enterprise Application Platform 7
- Red Hat Decision Manager 7
- Red Hat Process Automation Manager 7
- Red Hat Single Sign-On (RH-SSO) 7
- Red Hat JBoss Fuse 7
- Red Hat JBoss A-MQ
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8
- Red Hat Satellite 6.6
- Red Hat Satellite 6.7
- Red Hat Satellite 6.8
- Red Hat CodeReady Studio 12
Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform and Red Hat OpenStack Platform does ship the vulnerable components, but does not enable the unsafe conditions needed to exploit, lowering their vulnerability impact.
In Red Hat Openshift 4 there are no plans to maintain the ose-logging-elasticsearch5 container, hence it has been marked wontfix at this time and may be fixed in a future update.
Red Hat OpenStack Platform 13 ships OpenDaylight, which contains the vulnerable jackson-databind, but does not expose jackson-databind in a way that would make it exploitable. As such, Red Hat will not be providing a fix for OpenDaylight at this time.
Mitigation
The following conditions are needed for an exploit, we recommend avoiding all if possible:
* Deserialization from sources you do not control
* `enableDefaultTyping()`
* `@JsonTypeInfo using `id.CLASS` or `id.MINIMAL_CLASS`
* avoid com.oracle.wls.shaded.org.apache.xalan.lib.sql.JNDIConnectionPool in the classpath

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authorities (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications ).

My product is listed as "Under investigation" or "Affected", when will Red Hat release a fix for this vulnerability?
- "Under investigation" doesn't necessarily mean that the product is affected by this vulnerability. It only means that our Analysis Team is still working on determining whether the product is affected and how it is affected.
- "Affected" means that our Analysis Team has determined that this product is affected by this vulnerability and might release a fix to address this in the near future.
What can I do if my product is listed as "Will not fix"?
Available options depend mostly on the Impact of the vulnerability and the current Life Cycle phase of your product. Overall, you have the following options:
- Upgrade to a supported product version that includes a fix for this vulnerability (recommended).
- Apply a mitigation (if one exists).
- Open a This content is not included.support case to request a prioritization of releasing a fix for this vulnerability.
What can I do if my product is listed as "Fix deferred"?
Available options depend mostly on the Impact of the vulnerability and the current Life Cycle phase of your product. Overall, you have the following options:
- Apply a mitigation (if one exists).
- Open a This content is not included.support case to request a prioritization of releasing a fix for this vulnerability.
- Red Hat Engineering focuses on addressing high-priority issues based on their complexity or limited lifecycle support. Therefore, lower-priority issues will not receive immediate fixes.
What is a mitigation?
I have a Red Hat product but it is not in the above list, is it affected?
Why is my security scanner reporting my product as vulnerable to this vulnerability even though my product version is fixed or not affected?
My product is listed as "Out of Support Scope". What does this mean?
