Messages: "bond0:IPv6 duplicate address detected!" errors are seen in dmesg after a boot

Solution Verified - Updated

Environment

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5

Issue

The following errors are seen in /var/log/messages and dmesg after a reboot:

bonding: bondx: link status definitely up for interface ethx.
bonding: bondx: link status definitely up for interface ethy.
      ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): bondx: link becomes ready
      bondx: IPv6 duplicate address detected!

Resolution

If IPv6  is not used in the network, a workaround is to disable IPv6. In RHEL5.4 , IPv6 can be disabled by adding the following line to /etc/modprobe.conf:

     options ipv6 disable=1
