Solution Verified - Updated

Environment

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4

Issue

After creating mode 5 or 6 bonds in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, the bonded network interfaces may refuse to shutdown properly causing system hangs when power cycling

Resolution

There are some bonding shutdown issues when using the mode 5 or 6 bonding. The initscript enters in a infinite loop because of a bug, so when the system shutdown, it appears to be hung. The fix is a patch in initscript so the resolution is update initscript package. Updating to the latest initscripts package (initscripts-7.93.34-1.el4 or later) will resolve these issues.
