RHEL Cluster won't start after specifying the multicast address
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
- High Availability
Issue
After specifying the multicast address for my RHEL cluster, cman fails to start with the following error:
corosync [MAIN ] parse error in config: No multicast address specified
Resolution
Specify a multicast address that falls in the supported range of 224.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255.
Root Cause
- If the specified multicast address falls outside the supported range of addresses for the cluster, cman will be unable to recognize it as a viable option, and assume that no address has been specified
- For more information about assigning a specific multicast address, please see the following article:
Can multicast address be changed in Red Hat Cluster Suite?
Diagnostic Steps
- Determine if the specified multicast address falls inside this range: 224.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255.
- Look for the following error when attempting to start cman:
corosync [MAIN ] parse error in config: No multicast address specified
