Red Hat Web Framework Kit - End of life and alternative support for web frameworks in Red Hat products
Environment
Red Hat Web Framework Kit - any version
Issue
JBoss Web Framework Kit officially reached end of life phase in June 2015. This means there is no official support for this product after the end of June 2015.
The framework kit consisted of several upstream-driven programming frameworks. The main reasons for retirement of the product include new standards for web development as well as the fact that the upstream development of certain frameworks ended.
There are some components of WFK that continue to be supported through other products in the Red Hat portfolio.
Please find a chart of supported components below.
Resolution
The support state of each component is given below:
| Included Components | Support Status |
| Hibernate Search | EAP 6.4 |
| Tested Frameworks | Support Status |
| RichFaces 4.5.x[1] | EAP 6.4 |
| Spring 3.2.x | EAP 6.x |
| Spring 4.0.x | EAP 6.x |
| Spring Security 3.2 | EAP 6.x |
| Spring Web Flow 2.3.3 | EAP 6.x |
| Spring Web Services 2.1.4 | EAP 6.x |
| Arquillian | EAP 6.x |
| Arquillian Drone | EAP 6.x |
| Arquillian Graphene | EAP 6.x |
Please also note that Spring + Hibernate combination will continue being supported on JBoss Web Server Plus (also known as Enterprise Web Server).
[1] Notes for RichFaces:
- RichFaces project will reach its end of life in June 2016 as noted in <Content from developer.jboss.org is not included.https://developer.jboss.org/people/michpetrov/blog/2016/02/12/the-future-of-richfaces> and <Content from developer.jboss.org is not included.https://developer.jboss.org/wiki/RichFacesEnd-Of-LifeQuestionsAnswers>. There will be no patches release for richfaces after the end of support.
- Red Hat will continue to test the community releases of RichFaces 4 on EAP 6.4 until June 2016. Since RichFaces 4 is a "Tested Framework" now, Red Hat provides a commercially reasonable support for the product. The customers can still raise cases and Red Hat will push them upstream but there is basically no guarantee that the bug will be fixed and when the fix will go in to a RichFaces release.
