How to identify VMware, RHEV-M Host/Hypervisor name of corresponding UUID's listed in Customer Portal / Satellite 6?

Solution Unverified - Updated

Environment

  • Subscription Manager
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
  • Red Hat Network Satellite
  • VMware ESX/ESXi
  • vCenter (deprecated v6.0)

Issue

  • After Setting up virt-who, there will be hypervisors in the Customer Portal without hostnames.
    Unable to identify the Hypervisor's hostname in the Customer Portal, because hostname was not captured during the virt-who setup.

Resolution

  • Match the UUID on the Hypervisor with the UUID on the Customer Portal.

If using ESXi/ESX, use the Managed Object Browser on vCenter to find the UUID. It's located here:

Content from hypervisor_fqdn is not included.https://hypervisor_fqdn/mob/?moid=ha-host&doPath=hardware%2esystemInfo

If RHEV-M,

https://<rhevm host>/api/hosts
<host href="/api/hosts/8adb9352-c37f-11e2-9b45-525400748d70" id="8adb9352-c37f-11e2-9b45-525400748d70">
----> ID is UUID.

Note This is a workaround. In the future, the virt-who process will add the Hypervisor's hostname to the profile on the Customer Portal.
