How to configure satellite 6 so that when users from LDAP connect for the first time they are added to an organisation and given a role?
Environment
- Red Hat Satellite 6.x
- External authentication source
Issue
How to configure Satellite 6 so that when users connect for the first time from external LDAP they are added to an organisation and given admin rights or a role automatically.
Note : This is actually working only when having a single external authentication source or having one different authentication source. More informations about managing a single external authentication source for several organisations can be found here:

Resolution
To assign a role to users from an external LDAP group:
Create a user group from an external ldap group:
Administer => User groups => give the group a name ( for example: sat6-ldap-admin) => Checkbox admin on next tab or assign any other role => create external user group with only the name of the group you created in the LDAP.
Now all users for this external group should be given the assigned role.
To automatically assign an organization for each newly created user:
Go to administer => organizations => click on the organization => click on users => You can checkbox all users so this is done automatically for each new user that logs in, else you will have to do this for each user that logs in for the first time from LDAP.
