Will the Satellite server automatically keep the Capsule server up-to-date or sync'd?

Solution Verified - Updated

Environment

  • Red Hat Satellite 6.x
  • Red Hat Capsule 6.x

Issue

  • Is there a need to schedule the hammer capsule content synchronize --id capsule_id_number command on a daily basis with cron?
  • How frequent satellite capsule sync from satellite server, can we schedule the sync plan for satellite server to satellite capsule?
  • Is it possible to automatically trigger the synchronization of the capsules when new CCV or CV versions are created/promoted on the Satellite?

Resolution

  • Whenever new content is available within a Lifecycle Environment, whether that be from syncing, publishing a Content View, or promoting a Content View, a Capsule sync is initiated to sync that content to the Capsule automatically. You can find these tasks under on the Monitor > Tasks page once one of those three actions have completed.

    • Sync can also be initiated manually using Hammer :

      # hammer capsule content synchronize --id capsule_id_number

    • To get the capsule_id_number to input in the above command, below command can be used on Red Hat Satellite server :

      # hammer capsule list
