Symbolic links are not followed inside jboss-web.xml overlay directories in JBoss EAP 6

Environment

• Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (EAP)
  • 6.x

Issue

• We are using <overlay> in jboss-web.xml to indicate a directory which is outside of the deployment, but symbolic links in the overlay directory are not followed and 404 is returned. This behaviour doesn't change even if <symbolic-linking-enabled> is enabled in the jboss-web.xml.

Resolution

• This issue has been addressed in JBoss EAP 6.4 Cumulative Patch (CP) 7 so apply JBoss EAP 6.4 (CP) 7 or later.
