Memory usage 100% on one node in JBoss cluster

Solution Verified - Updated

Environment

  • JBoss
  • mod_jk

Issue

  • In one server which is on a separate machine the memory usage is going up to 100% consistently, whereas on the other server it is working fine.

Resolution

Generate an optimized mod_jk configuration at Content from lbconfig.appspot.com is not included.Content from lbconfig.appspot.com is not included.http://lbconfig.appspot.com/

Root Cause

There is a mod_jk configuration issue affecting load balancing.

Diagnostic Steps

  • What is being used for load balancing in front of JBoss (e.g. httpd + mod_jk, F5, etc.)?
  • Is it always the same node where memory utilization reaches 100%, or does it happen randomly on one of the nodes?
  • Is there any evidence that the affected node is taking most of the traffic? For example, the activeSessions property of the host=<hostname>,path=/<context>,type=Manager MBean in jmx-console, access logs, or a thread dump?
