fence_vmware_soap
Issue
- Can
fence_vmware_soapfenceVMwareguests in an environment withoutvCenter? - We know that
fence_vmware_soapcan be given thevCenterhostname or IP to fence VMs, but if we don't usevCentercan I pass the hostname or IP of the ESXi server directly?
Resolution
For complete details of Red Hat's support level for using various virtualization platforms in conjunction with the High Availability and Resilient Storage Add Ons, including additional details on the limitations and requirements for clusters based on VMWare platforms, please consult the High Availability and Virtualization Support Matrix
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
`fence_vmware_soap` is supported with ESXi 5.5 and 6.0 without the use of vCenter in all available update levels of RHEL 7. Other versions of ESXi are untested with RHEL 7. On supported releases, simply configure `fence_vmware_soap`'s `ipaddr` attribute to point to the IP address or hostname of the ESXi host instead of the vCenter host.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
`fence_vmware_soap` is supported against ESXi 5.0 and 5.1 without the use of vCenter as of RHEL 6 Update 5. Earlier updates of RHEL 6 or different versions of ESXi are untested and unsupported. On supported releases, simply configure `fence_vmware_soap`'s `ipaddr` attribute to point to the IP address or hostname of the ESXi host instead of the vCenter host.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
`fence_vmware_soap` is only tested and supported when connecting directly to vCenter. Connecting to ESXi hosts without the use of vCenter is untested and unsupported.
