VMware balloon driver support in RHEL

Issue

  • VMware's ballooning driver is accepted upstream and pushed in 2.6.34 due to the wide-spread usage of Linux on VMware. Is this driver included in the RHEL kernel?
  • Support for vmware balloon driver on RHEL5
  • Does any update of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 support the vmware_balloon driver ? if not, are there any future plans to back-port it into the 2.6.18 kernel branch?

Resolution

RHEL 5

This request has been reviewed by engineering and declined through RHBZ#593755 [internal bugzilla]. Customers interested in this feature are encouraged to move to RHEL 6.

RHEL 6

The initial release of RHEL 6 includes the vmware_balloon driver. Its addition was tracked through RHBZ#582826 [internal bugzilla]. If there are any questions about this driver, please contact Red Hat Support.

RHEL 7

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 now ships with the vmw_balloon driver.
