Issue

  • Register and manage Red Hat Enterprise Linux Desktop with Red Hat Satellite 6
  • Enabling rhel-7-server-satellite-tools-6.2-rpms errors 
Error: rhel-7-server-satellite-tools-6.2-rpms is not a valid repository ID. Use --list option to see valid repositories

Resolution

  • Validate if the system is actually running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 Desktop using
# rct cat-cert /etc/pki/product/68.pem
  • Verify from which package is the file /etc/redhat-release associated
# rpm -qf /etc/redhat-release

  • Enable and sync Red Hat Satellite Tools 6.x (for RHEL 7 Desktop) (RPMs) repository using
    Satellite Web UI -> Content -> Red Hat Repositories -> RPMs -> Red Hat Enterprise Linux Desktop -> Red Hat Satellite Tools 6.2 (for RHEL 7 Desktop) (RPMs)

    Where x refers to the minor version of Satellite 6.

  • If using content view, add this repository to it and then publish a new version of it.

  • Enable the repository on the client using

# subscription-manager repos --enable=rhel-\*-satellite-tools-\*-rpms
