Can content view be published/promoted parallelly in Red Hat Satellite 6?

Environment

  • Red Hat Satellite 6.x

Issue

  • Need to publish/promote one Content View parallelly to different life-cycle environments.

Resolution

  • It is not possible to concurrently promote or publish Content View (CV) in the Satellite
  • One can publish/promote different CVs concurrently, but concurrent actions of the same CV is not allowed

Root Cause

  • Locks make sure resources like repositories are not altered simultaneously, by multiple tasks, to avoid corruption.
  • Locks are handled by foreman tasks and its plugins are not supposed to be altered by users.
  • If a task is waiting because of a lock taken by other task, it is intentional logic and cannot be skipped or overridden.

Diagnostic Steps

  • Check the locks being taken by a task on Satellite WebUI:-

    • Go to Monitor > Tasks > Search for Content View Publish/Promote Task > Locks.

Note :- The exclusive and non-exclusive locks indicates the relation of the task with the resource.
