Environment
- Red Hat Satellite 6.5
Issue
- Why the option
Force Yum Metadata Regenerationis removed from the Red Hat Satellite web UI while publishing the Content View? - Option
Force Yum Metadata Regenerationto regenerate repository metadata is missing from the Red Hat Satellite web UI while publishing the Content View.
Resolution
- Firstly, the option
Force Yum Metadata Regenerationis not removed from the Red Hat Satellite web UI. It is just the navigation has modified a bit as this option is shifted to per version of the Content View adhere the conventions. So the option ofRegenerate Repository Metadatais available with each published version of the Content View on the Versions tab list as shown in the below enclosed screenshot:
-
As per this modification, the new way to regenerate repository metadata for already published version of Content View on the Red Hat Satellite web UI would be as below:
Content → Content Views → Click on the Content View → Promote (Against the particular version of the Content View) → Regenerate Repository Metadata -
The other benefit of this modification is that it avoids having to publish an entirely new Content View version since the regenerating repository metadata would be happening on the existed version of Content View. So it actually saves two steps as publishing a new version of the Content View and then promoting it till the desired Lifecycle Environment.
-
This also avoids the potential performance implications when filters are used on Content View which was observed in the older way of using the option
Force Yum Metadata Regenerationwhile publishing a new version of Content View.
