[RHN Satellite 5.4] Convert a virtual guest from using a regular entitlement to using a virtual entitlement

Environment

• Red Hat Network (RHN) Satellite 5.4 and above
• Vmware ESX server, Microsoft Hyper-V server or Hitachi Virtage
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4+ guest
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.8+ guest

Issue

• Convert to Flex Guest Entitlement
• Switch a virtual guest from using a regular entitlement to using a virtual entitlement

Resolution

• The virtual system must be up-to-date per rhn_register fails for vmware and hyper-v guests with "Red Hat Enterprise Linux as a Virtual Guest" subscription.

1. Log into the Satellite Web UI via your favorite browser and click on "Subscription Management" in the grey box in the upper left hand corner.
2. Click on "Virtualization Entitlements" in the same grey box in the upper left hand corner.
3. Click on "Guests Consuming Regular Entitlements" in the sub-menu.
4. Select the guest that you would like to convert to a flex guest entitlement.
5. Click the "Convert to Flex Guest Entitlement" button in the lower right hand corner.
