[Satellite 6] Synchronization of specific repository (or repositories) fails with 'Output: Yum Metadata: Not Found' and 'Errors: PLP0000: Importer indicated a failed response'

Environment

Red Hat Satellite 6.x

Issue

When synchronizing specific repository (or repositories) on Red Hat Satellite server, the repo sync task fails with the following:

Output:
Yum Metadata: Not Found

Errors:
PLP0000: Importer indicated a failed response

For all other repositories, repo sync completes without any issue.

Root Cause

The issue is caused by files missing from the affected Red Hat repository (or repositories).

Diagnostic Steps

Start a repo sync task on the Satellite server for the affected repository (or repositories), while monitoring /var/log/messages.
While the repo sync task(s) is running, look for messages like these in /var/log/messages:
