[RHN Satellite 5.4] Satellite flex guest entitlement issue for child channels

Solution Verified - Updated

Environment

  • Red Hat Network Satellite 5.4 with flex guest entitlements
  • Client system consuming a flex guest entitlement

Issue

  • if I manually unsubscribe/resubscribe the system to the "Network Tools" child channel via the UI - I get the error "No available subscriptions"
  • if all of the "regular" entitlements for a child channel are consumed, then you will see "0 available" for that channel on the virtual guest's system profile, and attempts to subscribe the system to the channel will fail

Resolution

  • Apply RHN Satelltie erratum http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2011-0362.html
  • If unable to apply erratum, temporary workaround for the child channel subscription error is: make sure at least 1 regular entitlement exist for the child channel

Root Cause

Bug in the application. Both the Web UI and the child channel subscribability checking only looked at regular entitlements, they need to take flex guest entitlements into consideration when applicable.
