"Internal Error" / "newValue is null" when adding a datasource via the web console in JBoss EAP

Environment

  • Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (EAP) 7.2 cumulative patch (CP) 4 and 5

Issue

In the web based administrative console:

  1. Navigate to the Configuration tab
  2. Click Subsystems on the left panel under Configuration
  3. Navigate to Subsystem -> Datasources & Drivers -> Datasources -> Datasource
  4. Click the (+) drop down and select either "Add Datasource" or "Add XA Datasource"

When the "add" operation is initiated a pop-up reports that an "Internal Error" occurred. The Details link shows the error detail to be "newValue is null".

Resolution

This issue1 is resolved as part of This content is not included.EAP 7.2 cumulative patch (CP) 6 and later patch levels.

In older patch levels, datasources can be created using JBoss CLI.

Root Cause

This is a known defect (Content from issues.jboss.org is not included.HAL-1637) in older EAP 7.2 patch levels.
