IcedTea-web provides a free-software Java Web browser plugin, replacing Java Web Start. The migration from Java Web Start to Iced-Tea Web is straight forward since IcedTea-web is developed to operates similar to Java Web Start.
The projects, Iced-Tea and IcedTea-Web were separated, so IcedTea-Web provides the plugin and Web Start support. The exact version of Iced-Tea on OpenJDK 8 should be on the Content from icedtea.classpath.org is not included.IcedTea wiki page, currently OpenJDK 1.8.252 has the IcedTea 3.16.0.
IcedTea-web is currently supported on RHEL with OpenJDK 7 and OpenJDK 8, as well as Windows with OpenJDK 8. However, following Oracle's path, IcedTea-Web is being deprecated on OpenJDK 11.
