Deprecation of RHV Metrics Store and Alternative Solutions
Environment
- Red Hat Virtualization 4.3, 4.4
Issue
- Metrics store deployment issues. What are the alternatives?
Resolution
- Metrics Store solution has been deprecated in RHV 4.3 and is removed from the product in RHV 4.4. See RHV 4.4 Release Notes.
- For existing Metrics Store installations, technical support, not including bug fixes[1], will continue for 6 months after RHV 4.3.11 release date.
- Upgrading an existing RHV 4.3 Metrics Store to RHV 4.4 may continue to work, but has not been tested, and is not supported. Administrators are encouraged to use the new DWH dashboards in the Monitoring Portal available in RHV 4.4.
[1] RHV 4.3 EUS is available only for the Hypervisor (RHV-H) and not for the Manager (RHV-M). See RHV Lifecycle.
Alternative solutions:
**RHV 4.4:**
Use the new [Data Warehouse dashboards](https://www.ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/grafana/grafana.html) in the Monitoring Portal to view metrics and inventory reports. This is deployed by default with Red Hat Virtualization 4.4. Install and setup instructions can be found in the [Administration Guide](https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_virtualization/4.4/html/administration_guide/part-gathering_information_about_the_environment)
RHV 4.3.9 + RHV 4.4:
It is possible to use the same dashboards, metrics and log collection components (previously used by Metrics Store), to send metrics and logs to a standalone Elasticsearch and Kibana (ELK) instance.
Monitoring RHV with a standalone Elasticsearch instance.
