Solution Verified - Updated

Environment

  • Red Hat Satellite 6

Issue

  • Discrepancy between Content View and Capsule contents display in packages and ERRATA counts.
  • Content View show more number of packages or ERRATA counts then the Capsule content for the same Life-cycle Environments.
  • Capsule content show less number of packages or ERRATA counts then the Contents View for the same Life-cycle Environments.

Resolution

  • Check the Content View for the promoted Life-cycle Environments.
    - Satellite GUI >> Content >> Content-View >> Select CV >> Version >> Environments + Content
  • Check the Capsule content for the Life-cycle Environments.
    - Satellite GUI >> Infrastructure >> Capsules >> Select Capsule >> Content >> Expand Life-cycle Environments
  • In theCapsule content select the Life-cycle Environments, it will redirect to the same Content View version for the promoted Life-cycle Environments. Hence the discrepancy is only in the packages counts display and not in the actual packages contents. If the capsule is successfully synchronized in the Satellite then we can be ignored.
    - Satellite GUI >> Infrastructure >> Capsules >> Select Capsule >> Overview >> Content Sync >> Status

Root Cause

  • Capsule content counts display will always be equal or less then the Content-View packages counts as multiple repositories have same packages contents in common. As the common packages from multiple repositories are consider as single unit and add ups in the Content-View counts, where as in Capsule content common packages are consider as one single package and doesn't add up multiple times.
  • Hence the packages count in the Content-View will always be equal or more then the Capsule content and this can be ignored.
