How to completely remove puppet functionality from Satellite 6.11 or newer?

Environment

  • Red Hat Satellite 6.11 or newer

Issue

  • We want to get rid of puppet functionality from Satellite 6.11 (or newer) completely. How to disable the puppet plugin on a default installation? Or on an upgraded Satellite?
  • How to disable puppet and puppet CA or puppetserver on Red Hat Satellite/Capsule 6.11 (or newer) ?
  • Is it possible to remove/disable Puppet from Red Hat Satellite/Capsule 6.11 (or newer) ?

Resolution

  • Default Red Hat Satellite 6.11 (or newer) installations have Puppet plugin disabled by default. In case it was enabled manually, please follow the procedure referred to below to disable it.

  • For Satellites upgraded from 6.10 or lower, puppet plugin is enabled by default. Please follow the procedure referred to below to disable it.

Procedure

Please note:

  • When using the --remove-all-data option, Puppet server will be disabled on Satellite or Capsule, and all Puppet server data files (including Puppet environments) will be removed.

  • Don't use the --remove-all-data option unless absolutely needed. Due to this This content is not included.bug, if the puppet plugin has been removed using --remove-all-data, then It cannot be enabled back.

    • Refer to this solution article if the plugin has to be re-enabled.
    • In case the plugin needs not to be re-enabled but has to be completely removed, then it's also important to complete steps 1 - 4 of the resolution section of the same solution article [ if --remove-all-data or -f was used ] and then restart satellite services.
