Upgrade sequence of Regional Disaster Recovery (Regional-DR) cluster in OpenShift Data Foundation

Resolution

Perform the following steps:

Upgrade OpenShift Container Platform (OCP)

• Step 1: Go to the Hub cluster and upgrade the OCP.
• Step 2: Go to the Managed clusters and upgrade OCP.

Upgrade OpenShift Data Foundation (ODF)

• Step 3: Go to the Managed clusters and upgrade ODF.
• Step 4: Go to the Hub cluster and upgrade the ODF Multicluster Orchestrator.
• Step 5: On the Hub cluster, upgrade OpenShift DR operator.
  • Note: This will also upgrade the DR operators on Managed clusters.
    BEST PRACTICE > ensure these operators are all the same Minor and z stream version.
    example: 4.16.4 > .16 = Minor .4 = z stream

Upgrade Advanced Cluster Management for Kubernetes (ACM)

• Step 6: On the Hub Cluster, upgrade ACM.
  • Note: This will also upgrade the multicluster engine for Kubernetes and Submariner should upgrade when ACM is upgraded.
