[Satellite 6] How to use content view filters to restrict the kernel or any single package update being updated to the latest version?
Environment
- Red Hat Satellite 6
Issue
- Need to apply all the latest package updates except a single package, 'kernel', as an example in most of the use cases.
- An example scenario -
The latest version of RHEL 7.9 Kernel is "kernel-3.10.0-1160.119.1.el7.x86_64"
But I want to patch the Satellite Content Host to "kernel-3.10.0-1160.118.1.el7.x86_64" ONLY.
To do so, how to configure a Filter for that purpose?
Resolution
- Create an exclude filter for the single package,
kernel.
Content --> Content views --> CV_test --> Filters --> Create filter : Content type:RPM and Exclude filter
Now, click on the newly created filter and 'Add RPM rule'. Mention RPM name as 'kernel' and under 'version', choose the rule to filter the package.
- For more information on using exclude filter options, refer to the article On Red Hat Satellite 6 Could the filter options be "Greater than or equal to" or "Less than or equal to" in the content views?
- Publish and promote a new version of the content view to take the filter rules into effect.
Root Cause
- Unable to filter a single package being updated to the latest version.
