In-Place upgrade of Red Hat Satellite 6 to RHEL 9 fails with "Error: Unable to find a match: util-linux dnf"

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9

Issue

  • Leapp upgrade of Red Hat Satellite 6 from RHEL 8 to RHEL 9 fails with the below error:
[ERROR] Actor: target_userspace_creator
Message: Unable to install RHEL 9 userspace packages.
Summary:
    Details: DNF failed to install userspace packages, likely due to the proxy configuration detected in a repository configuration file.
    Stderr: Host and machine ids are equal (XYZ): refusing to link journals
            Error: Unable to find a match: util-linux dnf

Resolution

Root Cause

  • The Red Hat Satellite 6.15 and older versions can officially only be installed on RHEL 8 not on RHEL 9.
  • The Red Hat Satellite6.16 can be installed on both RHEL 8 and RHEL 9. Refer to the Red Hat Satellite product documentation for more details on Supported operating systems.

Diagnostic Steps

  • The following error was observed in the /var/log/leapp/leapp-report.txt file in Red Hat Satellite 6.
