How are the virtio drivers supported in Red Hat products?
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV)
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux Openstack Platform (RHEL-OSP)
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
- Windows Guest OS
Issue
The virtio-win drivers are in the Supplementary Channel on Customer Portal Download page, but are they supported?
Resolution
For all versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8, 6 and 5, the virtio-win driver is supported in the Supplementary Channel.
The virtio-win drivers are also supported and delivered on Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization or Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform through their respective channels.

Root Cause
Virtio-win drivers are shipped in Supplementary channel of Customer Portal Download page which means that users subscribed to this channel can install them in all KVM virtual guests. The drivers are destined for RHEV, RHEL-OSP, all releases of RHEL 8, RHEL 6 platforms, and all releases of RHEL 5 platforms, and hence not supported outside of these.
