Replacing password-based authentication with API key authentication for hammer commands on Red Hat Satellite

Solution Verified - Updated

Environment

  • Red Hat Satellite 6.x

Issue

  • Assets management is handled outside of Red Hat Satellite and utilizes hammer commands to remove decommissioned servers.
  • It is desired to authenticate this process with an API key instead of using login/password.

Resolution

  • Personal Access Tokens allow the authentication of API requests without using login/password.
  • Since hammer relies on API requests under the hood, Personal Access Tokens can be used for authentication instead of login/password.
  • Please refer to 9.3. Managing Personal Access Tokens for more details.
