[Satellite6] Is puppetserver still supported in Red Hat Satellite 6.19?

Environment

  • Red Hat Satellite 6.19

Issue

  • Is puppetserver still supported in Red Hat Satellite 6.19?
  • We are using puppetserver 8/puppet-agent implementing modules on all registered Hosts. We plan to upgrade Sat6.18
    to 6.19 but needs to keep using puppet. Will puppet still work?

Resolution

  • Puppetserver 8 installed and running on Satellite 6.18 will be replaced with openvox-server 8 when the Satellite is upgraded to version 6.19.

  • openvox-server rpm spec shows that it will obsolete the puppetserver 8

Obsoletes:        puppetserver < 9   <========= openvox-server will obsolete puppetserver 8
Conflicts:        puppetserver
Provides:         puppetserver = %{version}

  • The documentation specifically mentioned:
    Managing Configuration by using Puppet Integration

    "Puppet server is no longer supported for Puppet integration with Satellite. To integrate your Puppet infrastructure with
    Satellite, you need to use an OpenVox server instead. An OpenVox server is functionally equivalent to a Puppet server."

  • For the puppet-agent, Sat6.19 documentation mentioned that it is still compatible:

    "As a legacy alternative, Puppet agent also remains compatible with Satellite for Puppet integration."
