How to Submit Feature Enhancements (RFE) Process for Red Hat Products

Solution Verified - Updated

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) (All Versions)
  • Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (RHOCP) and related products
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform (All Versions)
  • JBoss & Middleware products
  • Red Hat Satellite (All Versions)
  • All Red Hat products

Issue

  • How do I request or suggest improvements or enhancements to an executable?
  • Is there a channel or method to request product improvements?
  • Where can I make a request for a product improvement?

Resolution

A request for feature enhancement (RFE) should be registered via a Red Hat Support engineer. Red Hat recommends opening a support case via the This content is not included.Customer Portal for all customer RFEs.

Why should I open a support case instead of going directly to JIRA?

By engaging a Red Hat Support engineer, Red Hat is able to verify whether or not the RFE already exists and, hopefully, confirm whether it is a viable request. If the request is viable, Red Hat can also give an indication when it will be proposed for product inclusion. Furthermore, JIRAs with customer cases attached are given higher priority than those without.

How is this different from a normal support case?

RFEs are not guaranteed nor is there a pre-defined SLA. Depending on the nature and severity of the RFE, a Red Hat support engineer will provide appropriate status updates.
