How to subscribe to the Extras channel/repo
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5 and later
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.0 and later
Issue
- Where can I find the Extras channel?
- How do I subscribe to the Extras repository?
Resolution
Users are required to enable the new repository on their systems to access certain software for RHEL 6 or RHEL 7. The steps to configure the new repository are as follows (root privilege required):
Note: The channel names in the examples below are for rhel-x-server. If the system uses a workstation entitlement, then the word 'server' should be replaced with 'workstation'.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7:
# subscription-manager repos --enable rhel-7-server-extras-rpms
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6:
Subscription Manager:
# subscription-manager repos --enable rhel-6-server-extras-rpms
RHN Classic (for systems registered to Satellite 5.x):
# rhn-channel --add --channel rhel-x86_64-server-extras-6
NOTE: For information about the Extras channel life cycle as it pertains to supportability and distribution by Red Hat, please refer to <https://access.redhat.com/support/policy/updates/extras/>.
