Updated

What is virt-who?

What does it do?

virt-who is run from a RHEL host, be it a virtual or physical machine. It connects to a hypervisor and asks for information about the virtual machines running there for the purposes of reporting that information to [Subscription Management](https://access.redhat.com/site/articles/143253). The tool supports a number of different methods for interrogating the hypervisor, with the default being libvirt.

Which hypervisors are supported?

With exceptions noted below, the following hypervisors are supported;
  • RHEL KVM
  • RHEV
  • VMWare ESX
  • Microsoft HyperV
  • Nutanix AHV (virt-who only on RHEL 8.4; clients only on RHEL 7.9, 8.2, 8.4)

Additional Issues;

  • Xen Full Virtualization running on IA64 hosts, is not a supported hypervisor target from either RHEL 5 or RHEL 6.
