Attaching your Ansible Automation Platform subscription to your instance
After you install Ansible Automation Platform, you must attach and activate your AAP subscription to get started. Beginning with AAP 2.5, there are 4 ways to attach your subscription to your AAP instance.
You can:
- Obtain and attach a manifest file
- Locate and attach your subscription by entering your Red Hat Hybrid Cloud Console service account credentials
- Locate and attach your subscription by entering your Red Hat username and password, or
- Locate and attach your subscription by entering your Red Hat Satellite username and password
The method you use to obtain your subscription will depend on whether you are an administrative user, and how you choose to deploy and manage your AAP instances.
Prerequisites
- Ensure that you have an active AAP subscription.
- Review information about component licenses, node counting, and subscription types in the AAP product documentation here.
- Register your system with Red Hat subscription management.
Obtaining and attaching a subscription manifest file
This method for adding your subscription should work regardless of your installation type or user permissions.
Download your manifest file
Create a subscription allocation and then download your manifest file by following the procedure in Obtaining a manifest file.
Activating your subscription with a manifest file
When you have your manifest, follow the procedure in Activate with a manifest file to activate your subscription.
Locating and attaching your subscription with Red Hat Hybrid Cloud Console service account credentials
Authenticating and attaching your subscription using Red Hat Hybrid Cloud Console service account credentials is more secure than entering your username and password combination. This method will only work if you are an organization administrator.
Create your service account on the Hybrid Cloud Console
If you are an organization administrator, you can use a service account to retrieve and attach your subscription without a manifest file. First, follow the procedure to create a service account on the Red Hat Hybrid Cloud Console. Be sure to save the client ID and client secret you are provided when your service account is created.
Configure your Red Hat Hybrid Cloud Console service account
Before you can use your service account to find your subscription, you must configure it so that it has permission to view your subscription information. Follow the procedure to add your service account to the subscription viewer group detailed in the Knowledgebase article Configure AAP to authenticate using service account credentials. Note that you can only configure your service account if you are an organization administrator.
When you have configured your service account correctly, you can then activate your AAP subscription with the client ID and client secret that you obtained when you created the service account.
Activating your subscription with credentials
If you are an organization administrator, once you have your client ID and client secret, follow the procedure to Activate with credentials to locate and activate your subscription.
If you are not an organization administrator, you can still enter your Red Hat username and password, or your Red Hat Satellite username and password, in the fields where you would enter the client ID and client secret to activate your subscription.
Verification
To verify that you have successfully activated your subscription using either method described above, navigate to Settings > Subscription to check your subscription details. If the activation is successful the information should show a status of Compliant.
